MCA STCW Basic Safety Training: 30th July – 3rd August 2018 

South West Maritime Academy regularly runs 5-day STCW Basic Safety Training course. They’re based at their quarry in Gloucestershire, and deliver the very best maritime training. We’ve been working with them for a little while now, and are pleased to launch this latest offer. The STCW Basic Safety Training course (STCW95 & STCW 2010) is required to be undertaken by all seafarers in accordance with section A-Vl/1 of the STCW Code. It’s an essential investment for those wishing to make a career at sea, or for recreational sailors looking for the best training. 

What Will It Cover?

The course is intended to ensure that seafarers are aware of the hazards of working on a vessel and enables you to respond appropriately to an emergency. The modules are:

1. STCW Personal Survival Techniques
2. STCW Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention
3. STCW Elementary First Aid
4. STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
5. STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness

The modules listed within the course are a requirement for commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore or Ocean that are working towards the MCA STCW Master Yacht 200 Tonnes (OOW 500 tonnes). They are also required by Masters and deck officers in commercial vessels over 24m in length and less than 500GT.

Joining Requirements

There are no joining requirements and no experience is needed. This is an entry level course, required for all persons wishing to work aboard seafaring vessels.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the STCW Basic Safety Training course (STCW95 & STCW 2010), candidates will receive Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) approved certificates, valid for 5 years in the following:

• Personal Survival Techniques (STCW A-VI/1-1
• Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/1-2)
• Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3)
• Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (STCW A-VI/1-4)
• Proficiency in Security Awareness (STCW A-VI/6-1)

South West Maritime Academy have a fantastic reputation for extremely high quality training. They are based at their own quarry in Gloucestershire, 25 minutes from just Bristol or Gloucester. This is a great part of the country, home to many fantastic shipyards and tall ships, with a community of its own useful to know about.
